Music & Arts for Real Talents is again bringing another laughter to the Filipinos in Singapore, this time by another bankable comedian in the Philippines in the name of POOH! The idea comes out upon having a successful show of Vice Ganda that majority of Pinoys really love to laugh out loud.

The show which will be staged at D’ Marquee is located in Downtown East, Pasir Ris, a 10-min walk from the MRT and a 5-min ride from most of the buses in the Pasir bus Interchange, promises a lot of surprises and World Class singing of Catherine Loria. It will be a fundraising ‘Comedy & Concert’ for Catherine’s quest in Europe, another feat for this young talented singer being pre-selected by Organizer of the VIII International Music & Arts Festival for the Children and Youth of the World to be held in STRUGA, Macedonia. Catherine will be representing ‘The Philippines’ in the Youth Category which will be attended by 18 Countries around the globe and Catherine will be singing one Philippine Folk song and one English Pop song.

Pooh is the main artist of the show together with Eat Bulaga’s Host & Comedian ‘Kim Idol’. This will be a riot show.

Filipino World Class Talents at the YOG!

Aug 14-26 2010 is the first Youth Olympic Games that will be held in a very prosperous, developed and very rich Country, Singapore! As a proud Filipino, being a part of history is really a great honor not only for myself but also for my beloved Country as well, The Philippines. Philippines was once quoted as the 'Land of The Talented Peoples'. True to this sense, Filipinos are always quoted as World Class Talents, giving their best performances that always 'WOW' the world. The song ‘One Heart One Body One Soul’ which I wrote specifically for this Youth Olympic Games won the 2nd runner-up, will soon be heard all over Singapore. The song had been recorded by our 2008 WCOPA Junior World Champion, Catherine Loria, another honor to remember for such opportunity that only pass once in a lifetime. This opportunity opens a door for Catherine to have her first major solo concert on Aug 16 and 18 at the Esplanade Outdoor for the Youth Festival.

I was honored to be with Vehnee and to come out with this mini tribute for him on his 30th year in the show business. It was 18th of June 2010 when Vehnee & Ladine Roxas went to Singapore for a special holiday, a tribute had been conceptualized to do this mini concert participated by the Prime Talents of Music & Arts for Real Talents. Hit songs that brought the fame of Jessa Saragoza, Ella Mae Saison, Sarah Geronimo, Martin Nievera to name a few, brought to a Live Music at the Blowfish International Bar at Orchard, Singapore by FAS Filipino Idol Champions (Asher, Edz, Rodel & Grace), 2008 WCOPA Junior World Champion (Catherine Loria), 2001 Voice of Asia Grand Champion (Ladine Roxas) and the man himself behind those hit songs and successful Filipino artists of today (Mr. Vehnee Saturno). A full packed crowd witness the concert accompanied ‘LIVE’ by M-A-R-T Sessionista headed by Gilbert Nogales on drums, Vinnie Gonzaga on Keyboards, Paul Bensi on Rhythm Guitar and Warren Mamangun on Bass Guitar.

Vehnee delighted the crowd with his own rendition of the popular song ‘Be My Lady’ in a Jazz arrangement and the crowd had even more attached with the songs popularized by Willie Revillame in the noontime show WOWOWEE.

112th Philippines Independence Day Celebration in Singapore

It’s another year of lavish celebration of the Philippines Independence Day in Singapore. The tradition and culture of the Philippines was brought heavily by Music & Arts for Real Talents showcasing the evolution of the Filipino Music & Arts from the era of the traditional song and dance like Kundiman, Tinikling, Rondalla, Carinosa through romancing the music of the 70s, 80s, 90s and the millennium.

Local Filipino talents who are mostly the products of FAS Search for Filipino Idol and the talents from M-A-R-T gave their best to portray and depict each century of the Filipino Arts, Music and Culture.

The event had been graced by the most bankable actor / singer ‘Sam Milby’ and the singer / comedienne ‘Kitkat’, both from ABS-CBN Network. 2008 WCOPA Junior World Champion ‘Catherine Loria’ had an special appearance that amazed the audience with her rendition of ‘Voice Within’ and ‘Sa Iyo’.

It’s a yearly event in Singapore being organized by the steering committee of the Philippine Embassy held last June 13, 2010 at Hong Lim Park, Singapore. The program is hosted by Maria Fernandez, Lloyd Pagulayan and the Singapore’s Rock Diva Ms. Pamela Wildheart. Mart Ilagan directed and choreographed most of the production medley.

Thanks to Philippine Embassy of Singapore for having this yearly event for all OFW and all Pinoys who are staying in the Lion City, Singapore!

For the past 6 months, upon starting the Music Avenue for Real Talents, it was getting steady with already students based and aspiring talents having the home in Tanjong Pagar. Blessing in disguise that after 6 months, the studio suddenly seized-up by the owner, my partner gave-up and I have to start anew.
I’m on the verge of giving up too, giving up my dreams to have this home for the unsung talented ones, but lo and behold, God gave me a new home that renew my strength to continue what I have already started. Music & Arts for Real Talents is born with a new face, a new home a new website and a new direction.
The new location is almost perfect to what really is the mission of M-A-R-T for. The environment is so cool, being in the heart of Chinatown, it gives a new perspective to M-A-R-T customers and clients especially to young students. New M-A-R-T is having the same concept of band jamming, dance lessons (ballroom & modern dance), music lessons (vocal, guitar, keyboard & drums), with recording, songwriting & music engineering module plus the students will have a chance to become a new artist of MART being groom and develop into a world class performer. The location is very convenient to find, you just have to alight in the Chinatown MRT and go to EXIT A, walk to the right side, and find 57B Pagoda Street, level 3. The Engineer’s Song grabbed the 2nd Runner-up spot in the YOG Theme Songwriting

Mart Ilagan’s One Heart One Body One Soul put up a good fight to clinch one of the top 3 awards as the 2nd runner-up in the concluded Grand Finale night of Sing Singapore Youth Olympics Theme Songwriting competition held at FAR EAST PLAZA last March 5, 2010. Out of 107 entries, the judges picked 30 best songs for the semi-finals, which even trimmed down to top 10 Grand finalists. It’s already an honor for Mart Ilagan to be in the Grand finals, but getting one of the major awards, he’s already been blessed.
A 14-yr old 2008 WCOPA Jr World Champion, Ms Catherine Loria, performed the song with so much confidence as if she’s been living in Singapore for so many years already. Mart put up the good spirit of the Olympics using the 5 rings in the dance routine by the Groove Unlimited and the 5 colors of the Olympics symbol represented by the back-up vocals (Mia, Weng, Grace, Rogil and Asher). The audience was truly astonished with the over-all performance of the team which getting the highest percentage in the audience voting. Mart’s song was also breezed to the 2nd spot in the on-line voting with only few votes away from the leading song. The on-line demo was done by no other than the 1st Philippine Idol Ms. Mau Marcelo.
Once again, Pinoy proved that when it comes to performing, the element of being a ‘World Class’ is always been shown.

1st Youth Olympics in Singapore - Theme Song One Heart One Body One Soul

People all around the world is looking for this event on Aug 2010, the 1st Youth Olympics to be held in a very small and truly developed Country, Singapore. I've been working in Singapore for almost 10 years, a Test Engineering Manager in a Semiconductor Company, but my passion in music is also tremendously growing. My heart belongs to creating music that touches the heart of the peoples around me while my mind is still actively working in technical matters.
This coming March 5, 2010 will be a memorable moment for me as being a songwriter, I'm reaching into a different level when peoples in Singapore who organized this songwriting contest for Youth Olympics selected my song as one of the TOP 10 Grand Finalists. It will be held at FAR EAST PLAZA, this is open to public and it will be graced by prominent peoples in Singapore. Celebrity judges include Ken Lim of Singapore Idol, Taufik Batisah the 1st Singapore Idol and Hong Junyang of Project Superstar fame. Multi-awarded youth judges will be Charles Phua Chao Rong, Yu Danquan and Dex Wong.

SINGAPORE: The upcoming Youth Olympic Games is an event that showcases the best young athletes, but come August, it may also be an opportunity for young musicians to show off their artistic flair.

The Sing! Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games committee is making the final call to all musicians to submit compositions for the Sing! Singapore project as the deadline draws closer.

The project aims to encourage celebration of the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games through music and creative expression, provide more opportunities for community participation, involvement and ownership of the Games among Singaporeans and to promote the Olympic values.

Songwriters will have to base their song compositions on the Games' theme – celebrate youth, Olympism and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect, and submit them by 15 January 2010, 2359 hours.

This competition is open to everyone regardless of age and nationality, individuals and/or teams, and song writers are invited to submit their song lyrics and the final product.

Members of the public, who will be able to listen to the entries, can vote for their favourite songs at www.singapore2010.nyc.sg.

Celebrity judge Ken Lim, Singapore Idol Taufik Batisah and Hong Junyang from Project Superstar will be the guest judges for the semi-finals and finals at the Community Life Arts Programme (CLAP!) on February 5 and March 5 at Far East Plaza to determine the winner.

A prize of S$1,000 and a trophy awaits the winner of the competition, while the first and second runners-up will stand to win S$800 and S$500 respectively. Both will also receive a trophy.

There is also a possibility that the winning composition could be used as the theme song for the Games.

Currently, the original theme song for Singapore 2010 is being developed by an appointed Executive Producer, but in the event that there is a far better song from this project or other sources, the committee would consider replacing the original version.

According to the committee, they will also be working with the organizers to explore opportunities to feature songs submitted through this project and short-listed songs may be played at Singapore 2010 related events where appropriate.

13th World Championships Of Performing Arts Unfolded (by: mart ilagan)

The 13th WCOPA (an Olympic style for singers, actors, models, dancers, variety acts and instrumentalists) held at Westin Bonaventure Hotel 404 South Figueroa, Hollywood, California, USA last July 11-19 2009 end up with a successful participation of the 2 Singaporean delegates by the name of Sean Wong (www.sean.sg and Imran Ajmain (www.imranajmain.com).
Headed by Mart Ilagan (http://www.musicavenue.com.sg) the National Director who screened-out and audition talents in Singapore, the competition ended up with Singapore grabbed 5 gold and 3 bronze medals with other special awards such as Industrial award and Golden plaque recognizing the talent of Sean Wong in dramatic acting.

Day 1, Sat: Registration and welcoming guests in the Hotel, this include both hands printing with paints in the paper wall as a sign of unity among nations, meeting new friends and mingling with other nationalities.

Day 2 Sun: Parade of nations wearing national costumes with a lot of loud cheering. After the parade, all countries gathered in the stage for a pre-show with a welcome address from its founder, Mr. Griff O’neil. The pre-show presented by 4 previous champions of which 3 champions came from the Philippines (Jed Madela, Cercado sisters and Catherine Loria) together with the Jamaican champion last year, Andrew Clark.
Day 3 Mon: Proper competition started with Junior Category in the morning and Senior Category where Imran Ajmain competed on his age bracket category (25 – 29 yrs old) for 4 events on vocal (Broadway, Pop, RnB and Original).

Day 4 Tue: Continuation of the competition for all events in modeling, singing, acting and instrumental. Sean Wong competed with his age bracket (30 above) where he competed both in vocal and in acting category.

Day 5 Wed: Semi-finalists announced where Sean Wong selected to compete in vocal Broadway and in dramatic acting with mixed ages for the senior (16-30 above).

Day 6 Thu: Announced the Grand Finalists and the rehearsal was executed.

Day 7 Fri: The Grand final night for both Junior and Senior where 20 jurors from different entertainment industries in Hollywood seated to select the best of the best in the world in the performing arts and to single-out the Grand Champion Performer of the World for Junior and Senior Grand Finalists.
After showcasing the finalists talent, the Junior Grand Champion Performer of the world went to Philippines (vocal) and the Senior Grand Champion Performer of the World went to Australia (instrumental). The criteria of selecting the grand champion are thru the finalist’s marketability and entertainment value.

Day 8 Sat: Awarding of medals for a single or group performers who excel in their age bracket category. Sean Wong bagged 3 gold medals in vocal for Broadway, Pop and World and 1 gold medal for his acting category. He also received a bronze medal for vocal Rock and received and Industrial Award for having selected by the judges with a number of ‘go-sees’ and a golden plaque for his superb delivery on his dramatic acting on the semi-final round. On the other hand, Imran Ajmain grabbed a gold medal for his original composition ‘Jikah Engkau Pergi’ and 2 bronze medals for his vocal event on Broadway and Pop category.
WCOPA organizer threw a big party at night to congratulate all the winners and to tighten the friendship and camaraderie of all delegates among nations.

It’s great event with full of excitement and unforgettable moments which open many doors for opportunity to learn more, to be inspired and to continue cultivating once dream to become successful someday.

Catherine Loria's amazing voice does not end up in Hollywood, California, USA after capturing two grand titles in 2008 World Championships Of Performing Arts (WCOPA) as the Junior Vocalist Grand Champion and the Junior Grand Champion Performer of the World who bested 42 countries with 5, 000 acts in a one week grueling competition.
Truly gifted with a big and soulful voice and a projection of a very refine singer, this young lady from Tiaong, Quezon continues to inspire the young generation in fulfilling their dreams.
After her win in Hollywood, Catherine invited to perform in different top-rated local TV shows in the Philippines like in ASAP '08, RATED K, TFC connect, ABS-CBN 2008 Upload and in NBN-4 'Ani Ng Sining' (Harvest of the Arts) and BantayOCW 'Galing Ng Pinoy'. WHAT IS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF PERFORMING ARTS?

For centuries, there has been an exclusive “Olympics” for athletes excluding any non-sport activity or other prestigious type of achievement. This discriminatory practice is being corrected especially for the revered universe of performing artists by the successful creation of the “World Championships of Performing Arts” (WCOPA), cited as the one and only “official Talent Olympics” for aspiring performers and entertainers. After eleven years of incredible growth, it is the only premier international talent and modeling competition of its kind annually held in “Hollywood”, the entertainment capital of the world! Similar to the Olympics, only invited and qualified competitors (called Worldstars) representing countries compete each year in a fierce competition for “the gold”!

WHAT are “Worldstars”?

Worldstars are those achieving talent and models from around the world who have been exclusively screened, qualified and invited to represent their countries at the one-and-only, ultimate world championships for aspiring performers and entertainers:

HOW ARE CONTESTANTS SELECTED AND INVITED?

Like the Olympics, the finest aspiring talent and modeling competitors from countries are qualified and invited. Every contestant attending the World Championships of Performing Arts system is screened, qualified and selected under specific guidelines established by WCOPA, and executed by Scouts and licensed National Directors from the invited countries.

HOW MANY COUNTRIES WILL BE REPRESENTED?

Delegations of outstanding competitors from approximately fifty (50) countries will be represented at both the Junior World Championships and the World Championships in “Hollywood”.

WHAT ORGANIZATION BACKS THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS?

The World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) is the independent organizing body, in concert with an International Advisory Council, which provides the foundation for this inventive annual worldwide talent awards program of “Worldstars”.

WHAT IS THE MISSION OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SYSTEM?

The objective is the annual production of the finest national, regional and international competitions for exceptional, aspiring performing artists! This prestigious global meet is for dedicated performers and entertainers, who want to train and learn, compare their talent to others and network. This “independent event” does not solicit nor get directly involved in representation of any type and does not guarantee employment as that is up to the agents, managers and others. This is an innovative contest with persons from the entertainment industry invited to judge and conduct seminars.

WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES FOR AN OFFICIAL CONTESTANT?

An official contestant must be a citizen and/or resident in good standing of the country represented, may be an amateur or professional, must have been qualified and invited, and must comply with the rules and regulations established by the World Championships of Performing Arts. An “Official Contestant’s Handbook” is provided to each contestant describing details of and codes for the global competition.

HOW IS AGE CALCULATED?

The age of the contestant on the first day of the world event (July 11, 2009) determines the age category of competition. For duets, trios, quartets, choirs, groups and production numbers, it is calculated by age averaging. Every member’s age as of the first day is added together then divided by the number of members in the group. If the average age of a group ends in 0.5 or higher, then it is rounded up to the next higher age.

WHAT IS THE JUDGING CRITERIA?

Special emphasis is placed on “entertainment value and marketability” during judging. This in no way takes away from the technical aspect of the performances, however, judges are looking for that special charisma (“it”) that most top entertainers have. Performance times of one minute (60 seconds) are strictly enforced. Contestants with the highest scores by panels of judges in respective events are the winners. Over 100 persons from the entertainment industry (i.e. agents, managers, casting directors, record label reps) are invited to judge, conduct seminars and cast during the week-long event.

WHAT IS THE PRIZE?

Like the Olympics, the IMPORTANT PRIZE is also the “GOLD”, symbolizing excellence! However, the invaluable experiences, training and networking opportunities are the real “prizes” which every contestant receives! As well as winners being presented with a “Gold Medal” in every event category, style and age group at both the Junior and Senior World Championships, there are specific Overall Champions (individuals and groups) in:

Catherine becomes a favourite guest of Jed Madela on his concert series nationwide, with Catherine's humbleness and with very refine personality blasted with talent on her very young age of 13, this young lass from Tiaong, Quezon will soon be loved by many. Her youtube channel under a codename 'marlon1112' had been viewed daily by thousand youtube fanatics leaving so many positive comments. Well, we too are hoping a big surprise for Catherine this year. She is currently continuing her high school studies at Lusacan National High School despite the hectic invitations here and abroad. A full length album which will be produced in Singapore by her mentor, manager 'Mart Ilagan' had been started and planned to release before the 13th WCOPA in Hollywood this coming July 2009. This will include 3 original compositions from Mart Ilagan, 1 original composition from Sean Wong ' A songwriter, singer and producer' based in Singapore and hopefully 1 original song from Vehnee Saturno. It’s an idea that strikes from nowhere, but something is moving me to do this worthwhile project to help those who are badly affected by the unexpected typhoon devastating the only source of knowledge from these Pangasinense.

It’s not pure luck that I’d been blessed by talented persons around me, It was started with Mau Marcelo to whom I pushed harder when her dream was in the verge of giving-up by giving her a chance to redeem herself as a talented singer that could hardly been noticed in the Philippines, because true enough, face is still the greatest value in Philippines local show business. That was when she struggled to join again in various amateur contests after the defeat from Star For A Night who has won by equally talented and beautiful Sarah Geronimo. Her life is like a roller coaster but I do believe that something stored for this talented black belter, which moved me to cut an album under her screen name ‘Samantha Brown’ which includes all my original composition showcased in the Filipino community of Singapore. After this stint, another door opens with her when ABC 5 secured the rights of the 1st Philippine Idol under Freemantle. It was written in history, though another idol rights had been taken by GMA 7 by having their 1st Pinoy Idol, Mau Marcelo served as the only original 1st and last Philippine Idol in Philippine history.
Silent Dynamite as what other delegates from other countries tagged on this newest teen sensation who bested other finalists from more than 40 countries in the singing, dancing, modeling and acting category via 2008 World Championships Of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held at Hotel Bonaventure in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California USA last July 19-26, 2008. Catherine Loria, the 13 year old lass from the province of Tiaong, Quezon who started singing at an early age of 2 hailed as the Best Junior Vocalist of the World and won the highest award given by the WCOPA jurors as the Junior Grand Champion Performer of the World. Catherine Loria is not new in the singing contest, at the age of 3, she is already active in different amateur contests in nearby provinces of Laguna, Batangas and Quezon. Catherine Loria … Her Shining Moment In Hollywood via WCOPA 2008

No one ever knows how once destiny’s will strike in a particular time and in a particular moment. Catherine’s triumph in the recently concluded World Championships Of Performing Arts or better known as WCOPA (an Olympics for different form of Arts and Music) held at Westin Bonaventure Hotel in South Figueroa, Hollywood, California, USA is definitely a golden moment to be treasured for the rest of her life.

Unknown to many, Catherine’s passion for music was started at a very tender age of two. She even started humming tunes when she was only 1 year old, an indication that a potential star is soon be developed. Trained by her parents, her mother (Evelyn Ilagan) who met her father (Noel Loria) in amateur singing contest, no doubt that this great teen will always emerge as a winner in many singing competitions whether on TVs or just in a small competitions in nearby provinces of Laguna, Batangas and Quezon. Her mother provided the vocal coaching while her father provided the articulation in performing her music in the contest. Catherine has been financially supported by her uncle and Godfather (Mart Ilagan) an Engineer based from Singapore. Her uncle searched in the Internet about the audition and the procedures in joining to the WCOPA. When she was selected by STAGES under the management of Carlo Orosa, Catherine’s family are quite hesitant to pursue in joining the contest due to the huge amount needed to raise and knowing that upon winning in this contest, no monetary involvement will be given by the organizer. But Catherine’s uncle from Singapore was very positive that Catherine’s talent will be noticed internationally so he was the one who decided that she must be joining in the contest whether to win or not to win, this is one big opportunity that only came once in a lifetime.
With a very limited time of preparation, everything wasn’t easy. Song selection must fit for her age and the song must be arranged into 1 minute performance without losing the essence of the songs. Catherine must need to apply a US visa and do a fundraising for her two-week trip to US for the air fare, food, accommodation and entire expenses in the contest. Due to limited resources and the fear that her parents might not be able to grant US visa immediately, her uncle took leave from his job in Singapore to accompany Catherine on her quest to capture the world title.
Catherine went through a strict diet and proper exercise to increase her stamina and strengthen her vocal chords in a one-month training prepared by her parents. Her uncle, who is also a songwriter and music mentor in Singapore did the polishing of her 5 contest pieces in different genre of music before the contest will begin in Hollywood.

More than 40 countries joined in vocal solo, vocal group, dance solo, dance group, instrumentalist, modeling, acting and variety acts. Junior contestants ages from 5 to 15 were all talented and amazing, competition is quite tight as the piece that the contestants to show their wits and talents is a standard one-minute Hollywood audition type. Catherine passed through a one day grueling elimination round and almost catching breathe for every announcement if she will be moving to the next round. With God on her side, she moved to semi-final and to the grand finals with mixed emotion. The big ballroom during the announcement of the grand finalists for all act categories was filled with cheering, laughter and tears.

Catherine is a type of kid who is very naive and quiet which had been noticed by many in Hollywood, but actually she kept on praying and praying for a guidance and help to the Lord every time her name is being called in the stage. Her uncle always gave her a sign to keep the faith and always remind her just to believe on herself and believe that God will grant all her wishes. She was dubbed in Hollywood as the SILENT DYNAMITE ‘silent type but she is like a bomb or a dynamite when she is already performing in the stage'.

She performed 5 songs in 5 different genre on music during the elimination round, REFLECTION (Musical / Broadway) version of Christina Aguilera, JESUS TAKES THE WHEEL (Country) by Carrie Underwood, HIS EYE IS ON SPARROW (Gospel) by Lauren Hill, WHEN YOU BELIEVE (Pop) by Mariah Carey and I BELIEVE I CAN FLY (Jazz / R&B) a version of Yolanda Adams. The panel of judges had chosen her POP entry When You Believe during the semi-final round and her uncle Mart had chosen ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ a stronger piece for her during the Grand Finals.

It has been unexpected win for Catherine and for the Philippines. When the host announced that the ‘Junior Vocalist Of The World’ is Catherine Loria, the crowd applauded and cheered in agreement but when Catherine got the highest award being given by WCOPA as the ‘Junior Grand Champion Performer Of The World’, the crowd went out crazy in happiness, some was expecting that the award will go to Guatemala because they had already received two major awards as the Junior Group Vocalist of the World and the Junior Instrumentalists of the World, but to everyone’s surprised, this award went to Catherine for the Philippines.

Catherine Loria’s name is already written in history, this is her destiny. She brought not only the honor for Philippines but also a very good example for all aspiring talents to believe that dreams really happen.
She is just 13 years old, having an enormous talent, Catherine Loria will still go beyond what we can imagine … watch out for her … Congratulations!

The Feel Good Music of The Maharlika Band ...

Who can tell that this group of professionals from various walks of life in Singapore can play like a pro band? The key answer is because of passion … Never mind the busy and bustling days with so much pressure in their own respective jobs, once they have completed their tasks, they have only one place to go, the ‘idol dream academy ni kuya’ where-in they gathered together and shared the meals prepared by kuya before they squeezed in kuya’s music studio to practice the songs line-up required by those who invited them for a gig.
It is not easy to start a big group like the Maharlika Band, nurturing them to become the best band with the best attitude is a big challenge … but because everybody have one direction of ‘sharing feel good music’ to alleviate boredom, homesickness, work irritation and pressures, you’ll be amazed when Maharlika Band started to play. You will not content just to hear them play, but you will find yourself dancing and jamming with their tunes.

Who are they by the way? Why they called themselves The Maharlika Band?
The musicians are basically consists of Engineers working in Semicon industries headed by Noi (keyboard), Jhun (Rhythm Guitar), Raymond (Lead Guitar), Rhey (Bass Guitar) and Amber (Drums). I was invited on their Christmas Party, It was the time Samantha Brown wasn’t yet the 1st Philippine Idol (Mau Marcelo in real name) and this was my first time introducing Samantha Brown in the Filipino community in Singapore through the 1st full-length album that I had composed, produced and promoted entirely for the Filipino community. Year 2004 was the year when FAS (Filipino Association of Singapore) started to have their own singing contest. I was one of the finalists then, I decided to back-out and renewed this usual amateur singing contest to a greater heights through conceptualization into a ‘variety like’ shows that can be seen only in TV.

That was Maharlika Band started, I need a live band to perform the production numbers of the finalists. I consulted our OWWA welfare officer then, Ms Erlinda Arabejo for the band name, she told me that the name should be implied a pinoy touch with a class, so I thought MAHARLIKA would fit-in the name and so The Maharlika Band was born.

Maharlika doesn’t usually have vocalists, search for Filipino Star finalists usually became the vocalists of the band, but eventually, those who have the perseverance and those who are enthusiastically willing to learn and hone their performances stayed as the main vocalists of the band.
Invitations from different Filipino communities started afterwards. The Maharlika Band performed in NATAS show in Suntec year 2005 and series of performances in the yearly Philippine Independence Day Celebration in Singapore.
My composition ‘One Dream, One Hope, One Nation’ was the theme song during the visit of our President Gloria Macapagal Aroyo June 24, 2007 and it was performed by the Maharlika Band in front of a thousand audience from different Filipino groups. The performance was given a high commendation by the President herself and it gave a boost to the band in giving their best in every shows we’ve been invited for.
The Maharlika Band continued to penetrate different music scenes in Singapore. Recently performed in the Arena, Clarke under RONJOHN entertainment with a full packed crowd during the OPM nights and the night when the 1st Philippine Idol Mau Marcelo invited as one of the judges in the PinoySunday Amazing Star finals.

Because of the band’s popularity to the masses, invitations poured like rain. The band just recently performed in a very private birthday party of Mr. Jojo Abuan held at the Arts House Parliament with prominent guests from Singapore’s high society such as Ken Lim of Singapore Idol and Ms. Jennie Chua, the President & CEO of the ASCOTT group.
The Maharlika Band performance during this birthday party led into another invitation, the wedding day of Daniel Chua (Ms. Jennie Chua’s son) and Nicole Poh held in the Raffles Stamford ballroom with 500 guests including the 8 Prime Ministers of Singapore.

The band received another high accolades from the guests and from the happy couple. This is the most remarkable gig The Maharlika Band ever performed.
With this achievement of the band, I can proudly say that I’m the happiest kuya, all the hardships paid-off, conceptualizing an album for the Maharlika Band will be my next project. This will include some of my compositions and other original composition of the band members.

The success of the band is not just rely on how good or excellent the members doing their part, but it is due to the family treatment we are giving to each other, helping each other, understanding each other’s weaknesses. When we start to gather, we will start to play then we will start to create the harmony of friendships … that’s The Maharlika Band is all about …

It started with a humble vision, to showcase Filipino talents in Singapore through collaboration with Malay-Singaporean Production who supported the idea.
Mart Ilagan who is a Test Engineering Manager in UTAC, Singapore is very much visible in every Filipino Community Events in Singapore by supporting various Filipino groups like FAS (Filipino Association of Singapore), FBCS (Filipino Bowlers Club in Singapore) RonJohn Entertainment focusing on giving entertainment to all Filipinos working in Singapore via their PinoySunday program in the Arena, Clarke Quay every Sunday evening.
Mart has already written a song for the first Philippine Idol ‘Ms. Mau Marcelo’ and he was actually self produced and written her 1st album prior Philippine Idol with her screen name Samantha Brown. He even wrote the Theme song ‘One Dream, One Hope, One Nation’ during the visit of the Philippine President her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on 2007 Independence Day in Singapore.
His untiring support in the yearly FAS search for Filipino Star in Singapore has been successfully ran for 4 consecutive years that had been produced a great talent like Mr. Robert Sunga who had been the top 4 finalists in the ‘Live The Dream’ contest via MediaCorp channel 5 in Singapore.
When he saw a great talent with Ms. Joyce Alberto who became the 3rd Champion in the FAS search for Filipino Star, he never rested his idea in music creation. When Joyce recorded a demo of Mart Ilagan’s composition, it has been noticed by a local production, the ‘SNS Entertainment’ headed by a Malay-Singaporean professional musician Mr. Adi Junaidi and the rest is history …
An album came out with 10 tracks, Mart Ilagan had composed majority of the songs and Adi Junaidi had beautifully arranged the music. There are 2 Malay songs that been adapted in Filipino language (Tagalog) by Mart.
This album had been meticulously in almost a year in production process aiming to bring a high-end result that will satisfy the masses.
This album will have a promotional initial release in the public during the Independence day celebration on June 15, 2008 at Suntec City (Atrium), SNS Entertainment is producing a mini concert in Arena, Clarke Quay on August 3, 2008 at 4:00PM-6:00PM.

Catherine Loria is a phenomenal rising teen diva that started to sing even when she was just only 2 years old. At an early age of 3, her parents started to join her in the amateur singing contests, people just simply fall in love and adore her upon hearing her singing ability. There is one old lady whom her parents didn’t even know approached them and gave her a ‘charm’ and told them that Catherine will be a big star someday.
True enough as Catherine grew up, she became an studio contestant in ABS-CBN MTB’s Munting Miss Universe when she was just only 5 years old, the late Rico Yan predicted that she will be the next Regine Velasquez after she belted out ‘Dakilang Lahi’ in the talent portion.
Catherine will be 13 years old this year, well grown-up, very humble, love her craft, an honor student, and with big dream in her heart to help her family in raising their standard of living. Lovely Catherine has numerous awards in local singing contest, she was a Grand Finalist in ABS-CBN MTB's Bulilit Popstar when she was just only 7 years old, grand finalist in Eat Bulaga's Batang Star, a weekly winner in QTV-11 Popstar Kids, Champion in the Extreme Karaoke Competition in BantayOCW NBN 4 hosted by Ms Susan K and with hundred of trophies and awards from nearby provinces of Laguna, Quezon, Batangas in different singing competitions.She was also a grand champion in the Kids For Christ National singing competition beating 30 talented kids from across the Philippine island held in Expo, Clark Philippines year 2004 and SM Lucena and SM Batangas LoveDuet Daddy’s Treat Grand Champion. She even captured the heart of the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP at 40’s) songwriting contest, when she interpreted Mart Ilagan’s entry ‘Paglilingkod’ and nodded a 2nd runner award given by the juror.
Catherine was invited as one of the guests in the 107th Philippine Independence Day celebration in Singapore year 2005 together with Ms. Ai-Ai Delas Alas, Mitch Valdez and Hajji Alejandro.
Catherine never stops chasing her dream … to be known in the international arena. And this year, Catherine will be heading to Hollywood, California USA to represent the Philippines in the World Championships Of Performing Arts (WCOPA). She will be competing in the Junior Solo in 5 Categories (Gospel Song, Jazz/RnB, Country, Pop and Musical/Broadway). She is appealing for help in terms of moral and financial support to bring honor to our country.
